Check out my website for list of the major mods done. I am on 3.08 peg leg right now. I only got it to the track once and the trans was slipping really bad between all gears. Wouldn't shift until redline so I had to go down the track playing with my foot. Let's just say the car didn't shift into 3rd until right before the end of the 1/4. It was that bad, my 60' time was terrible thanks to the idiot that sprayed water across the whole track. I was having a bad day. Anyways, with like a 2.8 60' time I ran a 16.7 with the mods and the crap trans w/ good old peg leg. I was so pissed that I had almost smashed my drivers side window, left fist went light speed up to it but stopped and all my friends were laughing at my reaction when I got back. One guy started coughing he couldn't stop. Just to give you an idea of what a trans slip can do to a 1/4 mile time. Take a 69 camaro, 3150lbs, 327 w/~370hp, 12bolt 4.11posi, trac bars w/slicks drag lights all around, and a trans slip my friend got a best of 14.3 in 3 runs. Fixed the TH350 and still "fubar" (it skips the second gear completely) and he's running low 13.1's. It's all in how you get the power to the track. Traction and weight mean a lot at the track. I could swear if the L03 hadn't crapped out on me that I could run low 15's with stock engine just exhaust and high 14's with intake, 1.6 rockers, and 3.73 posi. Mid 14's with larger TB unit and heads. Basically I think I've put together where you should start. A lot of people like to just swap in a 350 but find themselves with no money to do exhaust or intake work so they're stuck using 305 parts like the ehaust manifolds. My first mod on any car would be open element then stainless exhaust just so I never have to worry about those ever again. I start at the ends and work my way towards the engine. That is why I like to see heads being the last bolt on since they're where the intake and exhaust converge. If you want to be faster but don't want to just increase hp then get gears. They'll help you a lot and 3.42 or 3.73 will make a big difference. With a stock TBI system the peg leg will work but once you increase torque you're going to want to have posi or a locker. So think of gears as another thing you're going to want to do before something like heads and a cam. Hope this helps. Let's here what everybody else has to say about my responce. I'm sure onefine8t9 is going to say keep it stock so just ignore him , j/k. Snuf is a crazy fool that thinks he can make a better TB unit than holley or GM :P and Taz is just a nut. Those are the three that give me the hardest time other than the famous Pablo TBI expert (he is very knowledgable, just what ever you do don't listen to him when he tells you to put on a single plane.. spelling guys, it's PLANE, not plain and it's A LOT, NON ALOT!!! )

Jprevost, To get more posts just split your answers up into separate posts

Am I safe in ASSuMEing, that a peg leg rear end in a unmodified 88 camaro with a 305 won't have a traction problem at the dragstrip.

Its been a long time since I've been to a dragstrip. But I seem to remember that the track is usually sticky enuf for low power cars because of all the rubber laid down by high powered cars.
