8746 ecm and tunercat

Okay, I've been talking to Pablo but I don't want to pester him with too many questions. I have a 91 TBI so the ecm is a 8746 and I'm using Tunder Cat but I can't edit any of the switchs and have no idea how to disable EGR. Basically I want to get rid of EGR to see if that helps. I don't like how the stock chip advances the timing thinking it has EGR when I don't. I think that might be one of the reasons it stumbles ever once in a while and the SES light comes on after about 15 minutes driving (haven't pulled code YET). Right now the holley injectors are running at about 10psi and it's RICH. I'm going to modify the fuel curve ever so slightly and keep checking the plugs. Has anybody looked at the DSM file on the diy_efi page? It's a 349K disassembly of the ecm and I'm curious if anybody can think of some good things to edit while I'm at it. I'm sure Pablo would help me but he's got a 7747 ecm.
Also does anybody have a bin file for a 91RS L03 auto w/AC or know where I can get one?

JP, try asking FastBroker, I think he has done this and he should be more than will to help. The only problem is finding him right now. I think he's putting his engine back in his jeep this weekend.

I'll try getting a hold of him. I know that he doesn't actually burn his own chips. He sends them out to be done. He just does the software changes which is basically what I need help with.

Dude, hang out for a little bit. There is a Guy on DIY (Mark G, He is my personal savior and programmming God) that is writing a program to modify the 8746. It's a DOS based program. It's very cool. Soon we will be able to Modify just as many things as the 7747.

Didn't get to the motor this weekend... Did the "kids" thing. More fun, too.

I believe you'll need a hack to TRULY disable the EGR system. You basically turn the "EGR enable Temp" up so high that it will never turn on. At first, I just tried to turn all the EGR correectiion tables (VE and SPARK advance) to values that would not effect spark and fuel parameters from the Main VE table (7747).

THe "switches" are in the TunerCat for the 7747 and I would assume that they are in there for your ecu. Drop down menu... Not one to "disable" egr, though, just to change the values at which it works, if I remember correctly. One thing I will tell you is that I tried to turn the EGR enable on so that it would go on at 255mph. I have no VSS and it STILL WENT ON after a bit of driving. Really weird, man. Then, I played with the tables and that seemed to work (ie, even if EGR goes "on" the soark is "0" and the fuel correction none, ie entire table set to 92.4 value, which is no correction, must see hack to understand this comment!) but NOW I used the TDF editor and a hack to change the EGR enable temp to "00", which is actually 255F as the code is reversed for temp here, I was told. It works that way.

80pph injectors are big, man, and eliminating EGR will make your engine run RICHER as the EGR fuel correction (lowers fuel output) will be gone... Be careful about washing your cylinders and don't turn the FP down too much or you'll be in trouble. If your BLM's are high, cut down the BPW value by hand (ie, if BLM = 109, cut BPW by 109/128) to get the BLMs to 128 and go from there. You must be REAL rich at startup!

Not sure if I helped at all. BUsy at work watching stock market and going nuts.

EDIT: You are probably getting an EGR fault code. This is caused by the ECU telling the EGR system to go "on" and then looks for a drop in vac. If it doesn't see the drop, sets a code. Pretty cool and hack will explain. I run no VSS so code can never set as the test cannot be run until a set speed. But EGR still goes on w/o VSS. PITA. You're gonna have much better tuning/drivability when the EGR is off. The changes in VE and spark are pretty drastic and when you don't run EGR but have the corrections going on, it ain't good.

EDIT2, if anyone has emailed me, I have not been on at home for DAYS and I apologize. Will get to it as soon as I can. b-bye. THose of you with my work 800 number can call me here but may not be able to talk for more than a min.

EDIT3: beg/borrow/steal a Diacom (or other "movie" taking scan tool device, I wish I had Diacom! POS SnapOn...) to do your VE table tuning or you will spend WAAAAAAAAAAY too much time doing it and you'll never know if it is right...

JP, didn't get to my email last night...

Stock market rally celebration with the wife (Mom babysat) turned into a several hour/several bottles of wine event...

I'll surely get to it tonight. No more wine... Uuuugh, my head...
