injector spacers. Worth it?

I am going to do the Ult. TBI mods. I wasn't going to do anything until i build my 383 but i can't stand it. How neccessary is injector spacer. I only ask because I don't have the facilities at the moment to make my own, so I would have to purchase one. Turbo City want $20 for one. Thats rediculus for a tiny peice of plastic(I read someone had a bad experience with them).
My second question is this. A friend of mine is machining me a throttle body spacer. I am going to make it 1" thick, made of aluminum (phenolic resin is scarce at work, Uncle Sam is paying for it, so I can't complain). Since the space ring is about 1" wide, if I ditch it, and use a drop base 3 or 4" inch air cleaner, I shouldn't have any problems right. Also should I have it machoined with a 1 11/16" holes, as to use with a larger TBI adapter. Or, Should I have him machine it for the stco 305 size holes. Or, machined so it goes from one size to another. I now this is alot, but I'm beating my head in trying to make the decision before I spend the cash.

Thanks

drop base without spacer will hit linkage.

305 is 1 11/16, have him bore it from stock on the bottom to 2" on the top, that way if you every want to get a bigger tbi you can.

Thanks for the heads up with the drop base.

Your right about 305 holes, my bad. my thinking was that having larger holes all the way through would make a little turbulance at the transtion between the TBI and the spacer. But, I geuss it doesn't happen with other adapters (ie. carb), so why would it for that. I plan on changing the intake anyway, so I think i'll go the whole way. Geuss I'll have to do the cam to, wifes gonna kill me.

what about the injector spacer?

there i s a gasket beneath the injector tower, go to a parts sftore and get 2 of them. for less than 3 bucks prolly you can have the same thing, just not as flashy.
