Tranny problem (i think)

Ok, a little background. After a recent snowfall I took the '88 up to my high school to do a few donuts ect. after i was done i was going to take it on the highway but for some reason my 3rd and 4 gears are slipping. the tranny is a 700r4 auto. The interesting thing is in drive i slips through 3 and 4 and ingages in high 2nd. I added tranny fluid and nothing. after getting home i descovered a vaccum line had come off. I dont have any picturers but its from that servo thing in the front drivers side. You know that kinda disk shaped thing with a cable that i think is for the cruse control. the line is suposed to go somewere on the engine but i dont know were. I've checked in my Chilton book and still nothing. I think this is why my gears aren't working. if any one has any pics of were it should go that would be awsome.

Chances are the trans wont self heal when you re-connect the cruise control vacuum line. Did you check the trans fluid level before and after you added fluid?

Crap, My trans has always had its problems (slipping, leaking) but Its never been like this. I was hopeing these problems were related, for they happend at the same time. As for the fluid level, It was probably low, the dipstick never shows the right level, even on level ground. *sigh* maybe my trans is toast, after all it does have 220,XXX miles on it. All right I may need to get a new tranny. Thats something im not looking foreword to. Although the car was supposed to be a project car, Its turned into my only means of transportation.

If the trans has 220K miles on it...it's probably served it's purpose. Have you had a qualified shop evaluate it for you?

No, But i do have a new idea of whats wrong(aside from the 220,XXX miles on it) My TV cable. Its definintaly in bad shape. That black nub is falling off and its super loose. Im going to tighten it when i get home and see what happens.
