TBI HELP
Any help in this matter would be appreciated to a novice. I have installed a used 305 pre-86 in place of the original. I was told it has a mild cam, and bored .40 over. The question is why is it dumping too much fuel? I put the stock intake and TBI back on it. It does run, and runs good except for the smoke on acceleration, and burning eyes. I am going to check the cat. because the old engine had a hole in #5 and I do not know how long the last owner drove it like this, so it (the exhaust) was SOAKED with oil. Thanks,
Better to post in the TBI foum instead of the Carb forum, but I can tell you what they'll say there..... the TBI system is very sensitive to changes in the engine's basic breathing characteristics (bigger cam being the primary culprit here). As soon as you start changing things like cams you're into the world of custom tuning the stock ECM to make it run right. Yes, it'll run, but you need to tune the chip to make it run right under all conditions.
The stock cam in your original 305 TBI engine is a wee little sucker. Even the mildest of mild performance cams is a fire-breather compared to the stock cam.

Thanks for correcting my error, Do you know if it's a neccessity to know the specs on the cam, or can they just flash the PROM with a closer set to make it work? Thanks
