p/n for K&N Filter

Hey guys.
New 3rd Gen 'enthusiast'! It's great that this bulletin board is out here. Perfect.

My Question is does anyone know the part number for a great K&N open element for my stock 305 TBI? Summer is on it's way and I want it to BREATH! I've noticed it starts losing it's pull around 4000+. Anyone know how much extra boost this aftermarket add - on will add? Also I've noticed that at 90mph (almost exactly) it starts to shake like a m*th*r....I know it's not tire balancing...just got that done. But it sucks not to be able to 'open 'er up' when needed *grin*. I'm thinking the driveshaft. Does anyone know which/when/where an aluminum driveshaft will fit on my stock '92? And how much?
thanks!

Almost all NON drop base open elements fit our cars. However if you order the cheap one from Summit it will not clear your distributor and coil wires. I had to buy a throttle body spaver to make it clear. Check out the tech article on "how to install and open air element."
It is really helpful and should get you started. Some Open elements advertise that they have a groove or a bend in them to clear our HEI distributors. They are a little more but easier to work with. I got the cheap-o and had to pay 60 bucks for the spacer to make it work. With the spacer and opne element with K&N you will fell a HUMUNGOUS difference. You car will now breath past 4000rpm. I know exactly what you mean about the engine choking out and not being able to breathe. This will solve it. Expect about 15-20hp. Some guys might say less, but if your engine is in good condition you will fell like you are driving a whole other car

The reason your car does not breath, is because it has a small cam. replace the cam and you will feel a hugr difference

yes,

there are a lot of things that keep our cars from breathing. It kinda sucks. I am going to save up and buy everything and install it all at once. I don't have the money to do a little here and there because one thing always leads to another. like, I want that TBI vortec intake but i will need heads to match the vortec ports. Then headers will be needed to help that combo even work right. IF a cam goes in by then i will be staved for fuel so I will have to get new feul lines and a larger feul pump. Probably a new cat back to because my "custom" exhaust will not fit with headers and y pipe(it is not 3" which will be needed for all of those mods). Uhg........... moddin a car can be such a pita.
