14" Drop Base rests on the coil...
Ok, just picked up a 14" drop base and the damn thing sits right on top of the coil and doesn't seat 100% on the TBI. Also sits right on top of the throttle cable, but this doesn't worry me as much as the coil.
What did everyone else do different? I don't like metal sitting that close to the ignition.
Thanks,

Mine fit nicely and did not interfere with any cables. It does rest on top of the distributor, but as long as the wire insulation is good there will not be any problem. Did you keep the spacer ring on your TBI unit? If you have the clearance, install a TBI spacer.

Pukka, Where did you get the MacEwen white-face guages? And were they hard to install?

Future mods. Spark plug wires and plugs, tint, new 3inch pipes. Maybe putting 2 glass paks for effect. any other advise on getting to 300+ HP would be appreciated. Thanks

BTW: I hope you're still using the stock spacer ring. If you don't then the drop base will sit on everything. Look at the stock air cleaner and the spacer ring should be stuck to the bottom (like most). If you are using the spacer ring then you have something abnormal with your air cleaner (doubtful) or you don't have a chevy small block (also doubtful).

Nope, factory spacer is still there and it still sits on top of the coil. Dunno.
It's an ACDelco drop base 14". Guess I'll have to try to build something to prop it up a little higher and still seal.

Is this what you are talking about?

Yea I tried to fix it by putting liquid electrical tape on it, it did not work as well as I wished it would I still need to fix it and I probably just put a piece of cardboard over it for temporary because I hear it can do some damage if it goes through the wire into the base of the air cleaner.

Ok, I guess that little 1/8" of gasket or whatever from the original was all I needed to get clearance of everything.
Thanks for the help all. Now I just need to get a breather for the valve cover and I'm all set. The car is much more responsive now and idles quite a bit better than it did before.

did you read the tech article i wrote?
BEND the bracket that the coil is mounted to the intake with. it will bend backwards and downwards about half an inch and not interfere with anything.
as for the throttle cable. try a homemade carb aircleaner spacer ring made out of flat cardboard. go for it.
