What intake will work with Aluminum L98 heads??
I got a set of worked L98 aluminum heads and would like to use them on the my LO3. Since these heads way outflow the stock POS tbi heads, I figure the intake would need to be replaced as well. Since the aluminum heads use the older style intake pattern, what intake is available for me to use with my heads? Also do you think I can get by with the stock throttle body or am I going to need a bigger one? Last question is that these aluminum heads have been milled to 55cc from the 58cc, is this going to cause any interference problems in the motor (like piston to valve)?
Thanks

The aluminum L98 heads have the pre-87 carbeurated style intake bolt pattern. Therefore your stock intake won't work, but you have a vast array of choices for the replacement. Which choice depends on your plans for the car...cam choice, drivetrain, ect. You want it to all work together well.
The stock throttle body will probably feed your engine, just grind down the ridges and all that jazz described in that ultimate TBI article.
You shouldn't have any valve-piston or valve-cylinder wall clearance issues with the smaller combustion chamber.

David, Mark is right and you have a lot of choices but just remember ot keep it on the mild side. Also this would be an excellent time to change the cam too. I think an lt1 cam would be a good match for the heads but you also have many choices hear as well. Sounds like you will have a good running RS when your done.

Hey guys, thanks for the replys so far.
This is what I'm looking for out of my car. This is a street car, that mighht see the strip once and awhile. Drivability is my main concern, so I don't want to do anything to drastic. I was considering using the L98 camshaft which is closely matched to the LT1 cam. I also have some 1.6 roller rockers to throw into the mix. I would like to be in the low 14's with my setup, if possible. So figure me using the L98 or LT1 camshaft, what intake should I be looking into to help me reach the goal of my car? I really don't know much about carb, or TBI intakes for that matter so this is the area I need the most help with. Also if I get a carb intake don't I need to purchase other pieces to make it work with TBI?
I almost forgot, do I need a custom chip with these heads, because they don't have the EGR provisions?
Thanks

If you are willing to do the prom work you might consider one of Compcams Extreme Energy grinds.
I would look at something like the XR258HR #08-500-8. 206i/212e @ .050, w/1.5 rockers .480"i/.488"e, 112lsa.
Not much more duration than the '96 LT1 cam but more lift. 205i/207e @ .050, w/1.5 rockers .447"i/.459"e, 117lsa.
