crossfire injection

I just recently received an 82 trans am w/ a 305 crossfire injection. If anyone could give me a clue on what I can do with the following questions, I would consider you in my will. =)

* The book calls a 6 for my timing. The engine has no power what so ever and pulsates. When I time it to a 10 however, it runs like a dream. Any suggestions why?

* On occasion, when I accelerate from a dead stop, the TA seems to not get any gas to the engine. "bla.blahblahblah..blahblah". No power at all and it was floored. After 6 - 7 seconds of choking, the TA flies like it never happened.
The tank is full, the injectors have been cleaned via cleaner, new fuel pump installed, etc. I run 92 octane in my engine. Any suggestions to what the problem may be?

One other thing, if there are any crossfire owners or anyone that knows alot about them, please give me any sites or anything that would help me learn more about how they operate. Thanks.

This is a direct link to the CFI message board, which is functioning fine right now. With this link you won't have to go through the page listed above;

http://www.enteract.com/~mikew/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi

About your timing, run as much as you can get w/o pinging. That will give you the best power and fuel economy. About your acceleration problem check your fuel presure, MAP sensor, and TPS, and wiring harness connections.
Enjoy!

Tom, one of my good friends from that board, Gidvette84, has an 84 vette with the crossfire. It just looks awesome, lol. One day I'd really like to experiment with an offy intake and use two duel TB's. Anyway, how much power is your 400 putting out? And what kind of heads are you running?

Soul,

That's cool that you know Gid. I too think the Offy is the ultimate way to go. I haven't yet, because my heads won't support that much flow, therefore at this point that intake would be too big.

As for my set up, my engine is a junkyard long block, late '70s smogger 400 that also happens to be pretty tired. The heads are stock and I noticed when I put the intake on that the valve had some good "califlower" build up on them. Obviously this engine could be much better. In its current form, it is making approximately 300 hp at the flywheel.

Let me make something clear. When I put this engine in, my goal was the get into the mid 13's spending as little money as possible, while still getting over 20 mpg on the highway. Goal achieved. Now I want 12's so I plan on rebuilding the motor this coming winter, w/heads etc. But the bang for the buck cubes can offer is hard to beat.
