need advice!

I have a lo3 right now and am trying to sell it for a 4th gen z-28. if i end up keeping my car, i want to put a 383 or a 406 in it. I want to do this and spend as little money as possible. my engine requirements are around 450 h.p. and 450+ lb/ft torque. should i switch over to carb. or should i modify the throttle body? I want this to be cheap but effective. If i keep my t.b.i. what combination of tb, intake, chip will be able to support a 450+ motor? thanks!!

keep it TBI as long as possible and if that's the restriction, swap it out. 450TQ TBIs have been documented. It was a 383 but was lower on the HP. think it had 300HP.

thanks, anyone else. i would also like to still have some horsepower. i could settle with a 383 but would still want the same power requirements. is this possible or am i dreaming. would a carb be cheaper than all of the tbi upgrades (spacers, high flow tbi, matched injectors) what about the turbo city high volume tbi fuel pump, will i need that? Thanks

If i did all of the free tbi mods and the turbo city upgrades (minus the high flow tbi) and put a stout 383 underneath it would that modified tbi system support it ok w/o engine codes or performance problems.

Your stock TBI will not flow enough for a 383 even with the ULT TBI mods. The Holley 670 Cfm however and a custom chip can make it run in my opinion, for now the TBI mods will make a big diffenece with a complete exhaust.

Carb would be way cheaper in the short-term. You might see enough of a return of your investment on EFI in the fuel economy to justify it, though. I haven't tried it myself, but a 450+hp TBI setup sounds like a pain in the butt.

Define "as little money as possible." I've put over $5k into my 383 which makes around 460/460. That is my "little money" - what's yours? Don't think that you'll stick to a budget because you never do. Plan out your engine, get parts cost, then add 40% at least to cover "incidentals" - also known as the "while I'm here I might as well"'s...
