Got my Open Element today

Today I went to murrays (DOH I forgot something I just remembered). Anyways I got an Edelbrock 14x3 inch open element air cleaner with filter for only $30. I'm going to install it now and let you know how it turns out.

Off topic, I bought premium gasoline this week just because it was down to $1.55 a galon, and man I really feel performance. I think it may have unclogged an injector or something, because man, throttle response is so tight now!

You only need premium gas if your car is knocking. If it's not, then you are seeing a psychological improvement more than anything. I've tried higher octane gas, and what i've found out is that unless you advance the timing: gas milage = same, 0-60 = same and 1/4 mile = same, my wallet = lighter.

When you install the open element filter, make sure that its clearing the coil and also that you put a vacuum cap on the throttle body where there used to be a line going to the old air cleaner assembly..

the car will give you more timing with the better gas. Mine is more fun to drive with better gas. I hope its not all in my head. I don't think it is

for me, premium yeilds more miles to the tank. but in the end, the extra cost equals the same $ per mile. thats how it is with most cars ive driven.

I get significantly better mileage using 93 Octane gas. It's supposed to burn more efficiently, while improving combustion [Like N20 does]. I don't feel too much of power increase with it, just easier on my wallet here....you guys will hate me for this price...$1.27/Gallon for 93 Octane!

Not too shabby if you ask me!

woah ws6, the lowest Ive seen around here was $1.389 for 87 octane. So $1.55 was a good price for premium considering i got it in town.

Okay I installed my open element air filter in about 10-15 minutes (because I couldnt get the damn IAC off! I got it though). Man I can FEEL the difference. Huge improvement for off-the-line performance. Sounds GREAT! Makes my exhaust sound a whole lot better and less hollow. I went to work and parked right next to an aprox 1989 Camaro (no stickers or tags-VERY FRESH paint). It was the exact same color as my car and looked pretty much the same. There were no ground effects, there was a sun roof (WTF?) and 10 inch tires in all four corners. The interior was older than mine so i could tell it was before '92. It had a huge 4 inch cowl hood with screen (so it probably WAS functional). This thing was a true 3rd gen muscle car. No exhaust tips, but the pipes were huge. It had to be a 350ci or above otherwise I'd say it's pretty much RICE :P GOD that car was shiny.

I spent three hours washing and repairing my car's bodywork today.
Step 1: washed and dried my car
Step 2: Meguiars Scratch-X scratch/swirl remover (oh my god this is AWESOME stuff)
Step 3: Meguiars Polish (#2)
Step 4: Meguiars Carnuba Wax (#3)
All three coats done by hand by me. I've NEVER seen my car shine like this. It was jsut as shiny as the camaro next to me, which had a fresh paint job on it.

by the way snuflu, your tech article was very helpful and informative. I used the same air cleaner you did (i think). Everything matched up just how you said it would.
