speed driven gear

How do you change the driven gear of a speedometer. Im going to a 4.10 gear ratio. And I just want to get close to acuurate. I think I'm going to go with a 45 tooth. But how do I change it.

If you are just changing the driven gear, thats not too bad. Just get the car on a lift, then unplug the VSS wiring harness. The VSS is located on the tailshaft housing. It is between the transmission and the driveshaft. You may have to take out the brace that runs the length of the driveshaft, it bolts near the rear end then just pulls out. After you do that you should be able to get to the VSS. Unbolt it and it should slide out, then just replace the gear. It just presses on.

If you have to replace the drive gear, you can get it 100% accurate and It may not be much more work at this point. All you have to do then is unbolt the driveshaft and take off the tailhousing. The basic swaps is covered in detail at this site: http://sethirdgen.org/vss.htm

Make sure you put the pin back on if you do the drive gear or else it will just unseat in about 3 miles..
