If you go to a bigger cam you can use the stock computer but you have to change the programming. The chip has a .bin file that has your fuel tables, spark tables and lots of other parameters. The bigger you go with the cam the more you have to change your programming. I wouldn't waste money on a "performance" chip. I've heard they aren't much different from stock programming. Before you start modifying your engine you should read the DIY PROM section on this board. Most of your horsepower is going to come from your ability to program chips yourself. I went from a 305 TBI like yours to a 350 vortec with a ZZ4 cam but kept the TBI. The engine ran with the stock tune but it had no power whatsoever. Also, look into the EBL(embedded lockers). How far along are you on the restoration?

What you have planned is a good start and you don't need to burn chips for that. I believe you can also add an intake as well. Edelbrock and Holley manufacture TBI intakes but I hear the Edelbrock is an easier swap because everything hooks up to it nicely without having to adapt anything for it to fit and function.
