Differences between 93 and later TBI vs. Pre 1993 ??

Does anyone know of a resource where I can see the differences between the Pre 1993 TBI and the 1993 and later TBI.

I see parts listings, TBI Assemblies etc and of course they are listed as "up to 92" and 93-95 etc. I know some have 2 air cleaner studs and some have 1 stud but where can I find other changes / differences ??

I've got a few setups from 1993 Caprice 9C1 motors over here as well as a few older F-body TBI's which look identical. I'm just curious to find out what else has changed. So far I know some differences.

1. The changes in the air cleaner studs.

2. Of course the different injectors for the 4.3, 5.0. 5.7 and the 454

3. Looks like the TPS and Temp sensors are the same part numbers

4. ECM between the F-body I have here and the Caprice are differrent.
ECM 1228746 with 2732 style PROM on the F-body (91 and 92)
and ECM 16136965 with 2732 style PROM on the 93 Caprice "stuff"

5. The ALDL connector on the 93 Caprice harness I have is a bit different than the standard ALDL connector in my 88 Formula (although the pins / wiring looks to be the same).

6. The distributor "bore" on the intake is smaller on the earlier intakes and there are internal differences in the distributor. I'm guessing the module may be different although the connectors are the same.

It looks like the ESC is different after 1993 looking at the parts books. Can someone confirm??

Any other changes / modifications, I'd like to know. I'm trying to group this stuff together. I don't want to "mix and match" these parts.

I know that some of the stuff can "interchange" with each other but I want to make sure I don't have mixed "items" on each project.

Thanks

Re: Differences between 93 and later TBI vs. Pre 1993 ??

The 91 to 93 caprices used a special distributor and intake. The hole in the intake for the distributor is a bigger diameter to allow for the distributor to be removed without having to pull the intake due to the cowl that hangs over the distributor on the 91-up caprices. Consaquently the distributor has a bigger diameter flange. It makes upgrading the factory setup a PITA for us TBI caprice guys. Luckily the factory intake isnt half bad.

Now I get it.

I couldn't for the life of me figure out where this intake came from with the larger distributor bore. I know my 93 K-1500 with TBI and my F-bodies seem to have a smaller bore for the distributor.

Do you happen to know if you can swap the "internals" from the "non Caprice" distrubutor and use the distributor with the larger shaft?? The intake that I have from the Caprice cleaned up sooooo nice compared to the F-body intake that is quite a bit more pourus . It looks so much cleaner.

Just wondering if I could use the guts from the "smaller distributor" in the larger Caprice Distributor.

Thanks for the info. That mystery is cleared up.

Do you happen to also know if the ESC is the same or if there were changes throughout the years??

Great Info.

Ive never done it but the only differances between the two distributors should be the housing and the length of the shaft inside.

The only differances in the TBI ESC's should be based on engine size. Use whatever one came off a vehicle with the same size engine as you have.

Ive heard of guys on here who did the 305 to 350 swaps on f-bodies using ESC's from mid 90's pickup trucks. Should work as long as its the same size motor and everything plugs up.
