This engine is driving me nuts!

Ok, I have a 305 TBI with the Edelbrock Performer TBI intake manifold, SLP 1 5/8" headers, 3" exhaust with no cat, flowmaster 80 series muffler, MSD 6AL ignition box, MSD Blaster GM coil, T-5 5 speed, a decent clutch, Nitto DR's 275/50/15, and an open element. the gold ring was removed from the TBI unit and the open element air cleaner assembly is a flat base type. The rear gears are 3.08's but it does have posi. I also have Lakewood LCA's and an Edelbrock panherd rod, and Lakewook 50/50 rear drag shocks.

Now you know what I have, tell me what I should be running in the 1/4 mile. Right now it only wants to run in the mid 15's, I know it should be better then that. I havent burned a chip for it, and I don't want to. I have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator for TBIs sitting in my garage, do you think it could help any? Does the ultimate TBI mods actually do anything to make more power?

I know these are odd questions, but their the one's bugging me right now.

Actually that AFPR would probably wake ur car up a lot. The stock fuel pressure setting is still being used, yet ur running 1-5/8" primaries, full 3" exaust w/o a cat. Thats a lot of air being rushed out of that engine and I doubt enough fuel, atleast at factory psi,can keep up with it. I bet if u boosted ur fuel pressure you would feel a big difference. I have a AFPR sitting in my garage as well that I need to install. My exaust setup is the same as urs except I have Edelbrock TES (TPI) headers.

the only mods helping your time are manifold, exhaust, posi, and your suspension. Check your plugs, hows your car running other than times? crappy?

you should be low 15's, high 14's. I think that you should boost your pressure, or go with a vacuum adjustable regulator. mid 14's then, because if you are runnin lean at wot, then your timing is being retarded, and thats why your are runnin so crappy.

edit, clarify, runnin lean at wot is causing knock, causing timing retard up to 14 degrees most likely, since you have a stock chip. custom chip, i know you dont want to, but thats the real tuning, if you dont want a custom chip, why not go carb. honestly. it may be better for you, if you are racing more than driving.
