What should I do?

Ok, My rear end seals have been leaking for a long time now, and I finally have money to fix it. But, should I do gears too? Right now I have 3.08, I have no clue about gears and want to know what gears would be good for a daily driver. Or should I call some junk yards and find a rear end for another Camaro or TA and use it. If I do that I want to go with posi, but what years and models came with a good set of gears and posi traction. What should I do?

get a SLP posi, and a rear end from a newer 3rdgen v6. They will have the right spline count and better gears.

The slp posi is at http://www.slponline.com/view_produc...TNUMBER=64501T

The gears I would go with is 3.42 if you plan on doing a lot of highway cruising or 3.73 if you to do a lot of playing with rustangs at stop lights. Your 89 could have 28 spline axles already. They aren't hard to pull and check.

Why is the SLp posi so cheap? Is it weak? Powertrax and other companies are like $500 bucks. What is the difference between the two. They both put power to both rear wheels right?

The reason they they are so cheap is that they are Takeoffs from Newer Z28's When they upgrade them to SS they get the Zexel HD unit most of them have 4-5 miles on them. They a pretty much NEW.

lockers can be dangerous. I've had the rear end come out on a wet mountain road and I have no limited slip. A locker or limited slip would have been much worse. My friend gave me mad props for saving it and not spinning out.

So what would be the best rear end. Not gear, I am talking about Posi. Will the SLP $99 be fine or are the $500 from powertrax and other companies better. What are the differences?

From my bench racing experience, I'd have to say that a powertrax locker is preferrable. Posis aren't as reliable, can't be installed in your driveway, and will still sometimes act like a one-legger.
Lockers, on the other hand have come a long way from their beginning. They engage way smoother, and when engaged, the rear axles are locked (duh).
Powertrax is a little more expensive, but you can make up most of that extra cost by installing it yourself, which is very possible.

It depends on what you want your car to do. If you want a dragster, a locker is best, but if you want to carve some canyons, a locker is definatly not a good idea. There are also manual lockers that will let your rear be fully open of fully locked. An OX locker is cable actuated, an ARB is air actuated. From my friends bad experieance I'd stay away from an ARB.
