Water temp. gauge

I need to know where to hook up an after market water temp. gauge. I know the heads, but where exactly. I hear many different places, but what is the best place.

Are you going to disable the stock temp guage or should I ask do you even care about the stock guage working? If not, just install the sending unit into the stock temp guage sending unit hole. It's on the drivers side head imbetween the 1 and 3. You'll see the stock unit has a thumb pin look to it.
Other places to install the sending unit could be on the intake manifold (if it's an aftermarket unit). The stock intake doesn't have any extra provisions, just one for the CTS (ecm temp sensor). Hope this helps.

Is it the unit that has one black wire running to it right under the 3rd plug wire? That looks like a tight fit. But I think that's the one, correct?

Easiest way to add an aftermarket water temp gauge to the motor, without disturbing anything else, is to get a thermostat housing with a 1/2"NPT threaded hole in the top and add it there.Originally these are for a heater valve and the water temp you'll be looking at will be on it's way out of the motor when the thermostat is open.I ran one like this for years and it works well and is easy to install. Only drawback is of course the appearance.
