TBI won't spray gas
TBI won't spray gas
I just bought my first 89 IROC 305 last night from a neighbor. The car's front end is smashed and wires are strun about everywhere, but the car did run. At some point though the fuel pump stopped working. I bypassed the wiring jungle and put a make shift switch on the fuel pump which is now working. Gas is getting to the TBI, but the engine wont run. I don't beleive the TBI is squirting gas at all for the butterflys are dry. If I dump gas in the carb it runs for a few seconds then dies. PLEASE help, I want to get the car in my garage w/o pushing it.
Oh Ya, I check and replaced f/p inj fuses although they didnt look bad. Does the injectors somehow tie into the fuel pump? For instance if the fuel pump dosent get power does the injectors also not get power?

Replace ur fuel filter....it could be plugged. Also, listen for the fuel pump to turn on when u turn the key in the "on" posistion. Possibily have someone by the tank listening for it.

sounds like some of the TBI system wires (sensor wires, injector wires, power wires!!!, ground wires!!!, ground strap!!!, etc) are yanked, broken, shorted, etc, and the ECU will not be able to fire the injectors until you fix them.
put a test light or multi meter on the wires that lead to the injectors. i am not sure wht the reading should be, but there shouldbe something there to tell the injectors to fire when the key is turned. the power should pulse to the injector pretty quickly.
hope this helps

Check your distributor module. If the computer isnt receiving pulses from the distributor it wont fire the injectors. We tore our hair out on that one.

Thanks to everyone, I think I narrowed it down. I cleaned the TBI connectors and I hear them clicking now when crank is turning over. New Problem though. Gas can flow from tank to TBI, but I don't beleive it's under pressure. I hear the pump working, but I'm not sure if it's really "Working" Is there any good way to tell before I try replacing the fuel pump? Also I only found 1 inline fuel filter, is this normal? Also there is the vapor canister line, which is cut. Does this line need to be blocked off or wide open to the tank?
