how do i scan my computer for error codes, what equip do i need

trent,

if you have a haynes manual this will tell you the codes meanings, you can use a small piece of wire ,with both ends stripped back to expose the wire, then insert the wire in the 2 far right hand connectors on the ECM connector under you dash with the ignition on but the car not running the Service engine soon will blink to let you know the what codes have been stored if any, if there are no codes you will only get code 12 over and over again, that is totally normal, hope that helps
