TBI delete pully?

I am taking off the smog pump pulley from my 88 305 TBI because I am putting headers on it. Would I have to use a delete pulley to run a new belt or am I just able to remove the compressor pulley and run a new belt?

Any and all information would be helpful

Thanks!

See the tech articles. The smog pump delete is covered there.

Re: TBI delete pully?

The Tech Article will tell you but it's late and im trying to avoid doing a term paper, so here it goes. If you delete the smog pump and replace it with a pulley you can use your stock belt. However if you decide not to put a pulley back on, you can run a different belt and not buy the extra bypass pulley (the belts length and proper way to run it is in the tech article.) Just a warning when you delete the smog pump you will have four tubes running to each exhaust manifold, so if you do not plan on putting the headers on the same day you delete the smog pump, be prepared that they must be plugged with say 1/4 inch brass plugs. (can be found in home depots plumbing department.) If you need any other info feel free to PM me.

Re: TBI delete pully?

Just a warning, remember to put all 4 bolts and the bar that goes from the back of the AC pulley to the block back on. My AC bracket snapped off because the previous owner removed the bar and forgot one bolt(1 of the 2 close together on the bottom) It snapped off from the tension of the longer belt that goes out and I got stranded 45 minutes away from my house.
Its all back together as of today but it was a pain.
