Quick idle speed question

In the moring around 40-50 deg F from a cold start, what should my idle speed be in park? I have a stock 305 TBI. Currently the Bird usually runs at about 1500 RPM for a few minutes before it decreases. I dont remember it running this high before but I could be wrong. Thanks in advance.

Mine idles that high during warm up. I just deal with it and wait for it to slow down because I'm paranoid about warping or blowing out my header gaskets. Although it also did it since I bought the car two years ago before I did any modifications. I'd say it's fine, but I think I remember JP saying that performance aftermarket chips lower that idle a little. Who knows- you should get a chip for it anyway. - Randy

yeah, coolant below x temp (don't feel like looking it up right now) and the car will idle high to warm up faster. This is normal. Put it into gear and if you hear a clunk replace your tranny mount . It'll be high for a while and it's usually a good idea to let the car idle for a good 10-15 seconds just to get the oil flowing with no load on the engine.
Aftermarket eproms don't lower the idle speed but rather change the temp that the car goes out of warmup mode. So if you had a 160 thermo your car might never have a low idle with a stock eprom, this is just another reason why a custom eprom is so cool. All that jazz can be controled with a simple 4kb bin eprom .
