Coolant bypass thingy

I know this can be done, because I've seen pics of you guys' engine compartments. How do I bypass the gizmo that circulates coolant from the radiator and intake to the heater core? I don't know what it's called, but it's cylindrical shaped and has 3 coolant hoses going to it and sits on the passenger side above the valve covers. There is also a vacuum line coming out of it. THanks!!

Check out my website. I made a tech article page about the old school heater hose setup.
All the parts can be had in any local autozone or pep boys etc. The hard parts is getting the 3/4" fitting for the 1/2" NPT fitting in the waterpump.
