fan switch shot?

recently my automatic fan will not kick in anymore it used to kick in at about 240 degrees which IMO is a bad kick on point anyways it doesnt do it anymore the temp guage will work its way into 260 no questions asked i disconnected the wire at the switch and grounded it out the fan kicked on so i know its not the relay or wiring

i have a l05 350 what fan switch would i need? and is it common for the switch to just go bad?

Re: fan switch shot?

I have a switch that cycles on at 228 off at like 205. I know you can get them in various temp cycles. This one works well with my car though, only time the fan ever seems to come on is when I am sitting in traffic.

it is very common for those to go bad. Go to local store and pick one up, they arent expensive. Just say your year, make, model and engine type (vin E) and your set.

Or order a Hypertech one for lower temperatures.

Just change it when the motor is cool, be prepared to catch fluid loss when you pull it out, and wrap the threads with teflon tape or coat it with thread sealer...
