My Intro to Prom tuning....Q

Hey guys...so I finally made the leap from being a 305 TBI guy to a 350TBI. I decided against everyones suggestion to go Carb because I wanted to get into tuning and sort of make use of what I already have.

Now I know I am going to have to datalog/tune/create chips etc...but I am goign to start with the ANLU bin to start to get me running.

My question is with respect to Equipment/software I need to Create an ANLU prom to get me up and running. Am I missing something from an equipment/hardware side of things any suggestions based off experience??

Thanks almighty TBI tuning GURU's!! :-)

WinALDL & Cable--> To read/data log
Tuner Pro--> To create/burn a new Prom
Adapter to use newer style chips
New Chips to burn to. 29c256 or 27sf512
Actual Burner-> Autoprom or Burn1 (preference to burn1 just because of cost)

Dave

Cool...so looks like after a couple years of looking into the "black magic" I am going to jump into it..lol.

Any big difference between the burn1 and autoprom?? I mean for me my main concern right now is creating an anlu chip to get the car running "ok"...then over the next little bit I can work at it. The Burn one seems like it will help me accomplish that...

Comparing the Burn1 to the Autoprom is like comparing an arc welder to a high end TIG welder. They both melt metal together but the TIG is much much nicer.

The burn1 is just that a chip burner, you'll have to make changes, burn the chip, and then swap it into you ecm.

The autoprom is a chip burner, emulator and dataloger all in one. The burner and logger are self explanatory. The emulator is the real trick here, what it does is emulator or mimic a chip. This allows you to make changes on the fly while the engine is running. You can simply click away on the enter button and whatch the logging screen and see an instant change in the way the engine runs. It is a bit more complicated than a simple burner and you can get in over your head quickly if you make too big of changes too quickly. The emulator will cut your tuning time in half if not more. Just take baby steps and think each change through thoroughly.

If you have the money the autoprom is well worth the cash.

Cool...thanks BMonte.

I think I may take the route of the easy/basic Burn1 simply because I think it may be good for me to take baby steps with this...maybe after I get it running and burning some chips I will step it up to the Autoprom then.

Thanks....off to chip burning/data logging I go!

You can also just buy an ostrich, it's just an emulator without the burner and datalogger built in. It also cost a lot less than the autoprom. This way your burn1 won't really be a waste. About the only feature you are giving up by going with the ostrich/burn1 combo over the autoprom is the compactness of the autoprom and the ability to input a couple extra sensors like a WB.
