Major problem with stock fuel pump

So far in the past 6 months I have replaced 2 fuel pumps, though actually neither needed to be replaced. But the 2" rubber tube that connects the fuel pump to the fuel line inside the tank would swell to 2x the size and fall apart.

What could be causing this? It only happens when it has been sitting in my driveway for at most 2 weeks. For it to be the rubber tube both times is fairly rare and I don't know how to fix it or what is causing it.

As far as aftermarket fuel pumps go, do they all use the same rubber tubing to connect to the fuel line inside the tank> Obviously if I get an external fuel pump it won't but I'd rather not go that way yet. But I do wanna get an aftermarket fuel pump (Not a TPI pump)

Re: Major problem with stock fuel pump

Thats unusual, especially given the low fuel pressure that TBIs run at. Is the line nylon re-enforced? If so, it may be some additive in the gas thats degrading the line, or the incorrect elastomer is being used to make the fuel line.

nah, it's not nylon re-enforced. It's basically the stock rubber tube that comes when you get a GM fuel pump.

If you need to put a piece of high pressure hose in your fuel tank, be sure it's rated for in-tank use [SAE J30R10]. Your typical parts store high pressure EFI hose is only rated for outside the tank used [SAE J30R9]. That hose will turn to mush in no time.

switch to a later model sending unit they did away with that rubber hose and used something different ... end of problem
