stock lo3 intake manifold bores question

Im upgrading to LT1 cam and noticed that the stock intake manifold has an opening below from one bore to the other. Is that common?

I was thinking of boring the same hole in the edelbrock manifold that Im going to put on. Is it worth it? Thanks

Re: stock lo3 intake manifold bores question

I would think that hole would help the engine breathe by allowing the engine to pull air from either bore, chevy put it in there on the stock tbi intakes. When I bored my intake out to 2 in dia with my milling machine I also enlarged that hole some and tapered it on both sides and rounded off the bottom of the throttle bores where they transition into the runners. Dont know if it helped or hurt but my truck runs good.
