I have a 1989 Camaro Iroc LO3 5 speed. I can't do a swap for a year or two due to the money and the time that is involved. but would it be worth swapping the TBI to TPI or should I just build up the LO3. If I do decide to swap to TPI would the swapping and the mods afterwards be cheaper than swapping in say a 350 or something. I know I will not get the same power by modding the engine versus swapping in a 350 but I am 17 and something that can run a decent 1/4 time and beat some kids who talk up there cars all the time would be great. Overall I am looking for at least a little over 200hp for my LO3. Somewhere around 220-250 would be awesome.

I would get into tuning your TBI set up and you will be happy with some basic mods to your lo3. Its to expensive to convert to TPI and you wont gain anything other than a little mid range torque. There are guys on here running 400@500hp TBI engines that im sure would kill alot of TPI stuff for alot less money. THis is just my basic opinion though!!! You could do a cam and intake swap along with getting all the tuning equipment you need to burn chips or emulate programs for the same cost as just doing a TPI swap. Is your current engine is a good state of health??? if so you could do some tuning along with a cam/intake and exhaust set up and you would easily reach or exceed your goals. Just keep asking questions here and do some searching on the forum and you will learn a world of info. I hope that this helps you a little??
