getting PW in the ALDL logs
getting PW in the ALDL logs
I need a push in the right direction. I have read, re-read, and read again, but it is not clear to me... I have a 7747 that I am trying to tune. I have my Moates Autoprom emulating just fine, and am using tunerpro RT.
I have printed off over 100 pages from the forums and it got me from nowhere to here... (THANKS!!!)....this is my first question.
I am using a stock ASDU bin, vehicle runs well, just needs some tuning.
I downloaded the 7747-mine.ecu file from tunerpro and converted it to an .xdf using TP.
I am trying to log Pulse Width and Spark Advance in the ALDL stream.
In TP I go to Tools / Advanced / Hex Editor but I cannot find these values from RBOB's instructions found on another post:
Then to get the sync PW on the ALDL line make these changes at the addresses shown:
Addr: Value:
$D4E7 $00
$D4E8 $AB
$D4E9 $00
$D4EA $AC
Can somebody clear this up for me? There are no $D4E7 $00 that I can find anywhere....
thanks very much,
rb

Re: getting PW in the ALDL logs
OK, I found the answer to my question where BMmonteSS lays it out real well on page 3 of his "free tune" thread, he even has a before and after screen shot
Now, what I am trying to find is what other ALDL term I can use (other than PROM ID) for logging Spark Advance. Any takers?
thanks,
rb

Re: getting PW in the ALDL logs
I used the battery voltage aldl output to log Target AFR at one time. That might be one you could use. Just ignore the decimal point.
IIRC, there was a 'separate' table, at least in the 8747, that listed the ALDL output, in the disassembly.

Re: getting PW in the ALDL logs
You only need the LSB for spark as long as it's BTDC.
I put it in O2 cross-counts, since I saw that as a pretty useless bit of info myself, but
you can put it in place of anything in the stream you like.
Have you looked in the hac for the ALDL stream stuff ?

Re: getting PW in the ALDL logs
Thanks for the help folks... I am in information overload !!
Well things are going OK, but not great. It is a bunch different reading vs. trying to make decisions about what I am seeing in the logs.
To further the confusion, I think someone put a 160 stat in this thing so the coolant temp fluctuates, like it is cool when under no load cruising, then when I load it up the coolant temp goes up and I think that is messing me up some.
Also I pulled the plugs out to have a look at them and someone put UR5 plugs in it when these are Vortec heads so it needs longer plugs.
I have a full binder of information, but I don't think I have the
"hac for the ALDL stream stuff ?"
One thing that is also messing me up and I searched but came up empty... is when I look at the Spark Advance map, at say idle or for example 30 MAP and 1800 RPM it says something like 27 degrees (I have all the other SA modifiers zero'd out I think) but when I put a timing light on it it was about 38 degrees... any ideas there? My SPark Advance offset is set to zero, and with the ESC wire disconnected it does read zero with the timing light... and I did make sure the timing mark agreed with the actual piston TDC... I kind of buried this in this ALDL thread, so if nobody posts maybe I will start a new thread on that,

Then, with the instructions you have for getting stuff into the ALDL data stream, compare some of the hex numbers in those instructions with the addresses in the hac.
It should start to make some sense, then you'll be able to do stuff for which there are no instructions, just 'cause it'll get obvious. ( when it finally sinks in )

Got me for a few days ( OK, weeks ) before it sunk in what spark bias really is.
Some of the xdf/ecu definition files have it applied in the main spark map *DISPLAY,* but some don't. You might have to decipher you definition file to see what it's *really* showing you. It may not be what you think it is.
