T56
Well long story short, its coming time to replace the 700R4 and i really love the manuals. I want to be able to run 4.10 in the rear but still wanted it to be able to get good milage on the interstate. My buddy has a 01 TA and its running 4.10 gears with the T56 and he still gets good milage and it just hauls at the stop lights. Anyways, wondering if any of u guys have put a T56 through our engines? If so what problems did u come up against, if it was harder than the T5 swap, and if u had to get any special parts for it to fit and work. Thanks for the help

Re: T56
There is nothing specifically different about the LO3, you'll need to get an LT1 based t56 as the LS1 version is quite a bit different. With the LT1 trans you'll need a different crossmember, but I believe the driveshaft will still work. You'll also need a converter box to run the 8000 pulse per mile speed sensor with your ecm and dash that is expecting 4000 ppm. I believe there is a tech article addressing these issues.

I'd also add that if you're not going to get a crazy high horsepower engine any time soon, I would just swap in a T5 that will fit very easily and cost MUCH less. I love mine, and it's standing up to my engine just fine as well as being great on the highway.

Re: T56
yeah i was thinking about the t5 because of the cost but i am gonna go to an ls1 once my suspension and put the fourth gen interior in, so i figured i dont want to get a t5 then have to upgrade again. Really only feel like one tranny swap

An LS1 T56 won't bolt up to your 305.

Re: T56
It will need a lot of custom stuff to do that. Either stay away from LS stuff, or do the two swaps at the same time.
Find a power and tranny out of a 98 or something and toss it all in at the same time. Doing a T-56 now and then doing the LS later is a recipea for disaster. Tons of $ wasted. Just keep the auto till you wanna get the LS motor.
