What's the highest compression you can go with? also a few other Q's
What's the highest compression you can go with? also a few other Q's
the only thing stock on this is the bottom end and heads i just put a lt1 cam in
I need to replace one of the head gaskets so id figured id go with a gasket that would give me the highest compression (i want to keep in mind that tuneing is not going to be a issueI) all also need to swap out my valve springs I need a set that is relatively cheap since I have already drop in qwit abit into the engine what valves springs would you guys recommend do I need new locks and retainers also?

The problem is that the factory uses a steel shim head gasket. I can not remember the exact thickness; however, something less than .022". Another problem is that there do not exist any mass produced thin 305 head gaskets. You can find .015" steel shim head gaskets for 4" bore, but not for 3.76".
I'm not exactly sure what you are saying about the valve springs. You are missing punctation. What are you trying to ask?

When I rebuilt my 305 about 5 years ago, they were available. The stock design on my 1983 G20 Van 305 Vin H was .020" compressed steel shim gaskets with a 3.891" bore. They are available, you just have to specify OEM TYPE from NAPA. They might also be listed as HEADSAVER type. Funny thing is that I just ran the numbers on my stock setup and GM built a 10.25:1 compression engine with my application.

thanks for the repiles so far guys
, im sorry i was asking if anyone knew what type of valve springs I needed after a LT1 cam swap i would like a set that is relatively cheap and that's adequate and will last, and i was woundering in addtion to that if i need new locks and retainers? thanks guys

The LT4 springs and retainers are designed to handle more lift and more RPM.
