This is an engine I have on a home made stand I am trying to get ready to swap into a vehicle. I have heard this engine run and it runs good. I got an AFI basic harness and chip for my 1227747 ECM and installed everything. Engine fired right up but will only run for 15-30 seconds and then dies out. As long as I give it throttle OR spray starting fluid into the TB it will continue to run. When I stop the engine dies out in a few seconds. At some point I started to get a flashing check engine light. Had a friend come over with burning apparatus, he couldn't read the AFI chip so he burned a stock chip which gave a good check engine light and started the engine but still died out. Installed an inline fuel pressure gauge, getting 8-10 psi and the injector pattern seems to be good, fine mist in a cone pattern. Swapped over to the stock harness with all sensors hooked up except ERG and continue to have the same problem. Will run as long as I soot starting fluid into the TB. Anyone have any ideas what may be wrong? Thanks in advance.

Are both TBI injectors spraying or just the primary when you start it.

Sounds like it could be a bad pump.

 

are you useing a map sensor set up or a mass air flow ? without it being hooked up it would cut off the fuel supply and I see your useing a homemade stand. just my 2 cents
