Knock at 2500 RPM starts to die at 4000 RPM

Knock at 2500 RPM starts to die at 4000 RPM
The title pretty much says it all. My brother decided to swap the lifters, springs, and pushrods in his 1991 firebird. Now it has this knock coming at 2,500 RPM it stops at 4,000 RPM but then the engine starts to die. Any help is greatly aprecciated.

If I were to guess, I'd say the rockers were out of adjustment.
Were the new pushrods the same length as the old ones?
