Is this cam any good?
I went to the shop about a week ago and told them the specs on the heads Im getting and that im using a supercharger on my 305. They got me the comp cams 12-466-8 camshaft, will this camshaft be any good? I know nothing about camshafts but if this thing is going to be terrible then ill return it if i can, lol. Im looking for something street-able and with a pretty solid idle.

Its also known as the XFI 268 looks like. I searched for it on here and from what I can see its a pretty mild cam that should be a real nice upgrade over stock.

It says that part # is a retrofit? Will that work on my engine, I thought I had roller from the factory? Or does it even matter....

I bought this oil pump and I just looked on moroso's site and apparently its 3/4 and most of the other regular ones are 5/8 so will it fit on my engine or what?

Re: Is this cam any good?
Well I called the shop and they said they would call comp cams to double check.... and they called me back a little later and said that yes they thought it was kind of weird too but that comp cams said it was the right cam.
I still dont think this makes any sense, any one mind chiming in?

Re: Is this cam any good?
I emailed comp cams and they said I did need the 8 and not the 12, so I have no idea what is going on with this. They said to run the 12 I would need to change a bunch of things which would cost $$$ so that the 8 would be easier.

Re: Is this cam any good?
If its a retrofit, it wont work with your current motor if you still have your stock engine. Theyre different. Return that one and get one for a 87+ SBC. The 268 will also be too large for your motor if your not going to be changing the gears/TC and doing alot of tuning. I wouldnt use anything larger than the 256 with at least a 112 LSA if your going to be using the stock ECM. As for supercharging, thats a whole nother issue all by itself. To make things easier, id just use a good set of heads and stay NA. Cheaper and easier in the long run with TBI.

Alright thanks, I already boxed it up and am sending it out on Monday. Comp was nice enough to offer me an exchange for the proper non retrofit cam. And this is going in a non-stock engine and I already have the supercharger.
