Fuel injector shuts off

I have been having some problems with my 91 Camaro with a 305 TBI for awhile now. I will be driving along fine and then all of a sudden I will loose acceleration power and the car will often stall. I have finally been able to examine the engine when it is running poorly. And the reason it runs crappy is because one of the fuel injectors (there are only 2 of them) is not spraying. So I thought it was the injector. I replaced the throttle body (which has the 2 injectors on it) with one I got off of a 91 Firbird form a pick n pull. The car now does not act up as much but it still does some. And again more recently I was able to look at the injectors when I was having the problem and again one of them was not spraying. Any ideaas what would cause this to do this? It does it completely ramdomly.

Re: Fuel injector shuts off

Assuming that the fuel pressure is OK, mosty likely it is either a wiring issue or the ECM is going bad. Drop the ECM down and remove the pins for the injectors. This is the wire and pin going into the ECM connector.

Note that the pin is barrel like, carefully squeeze in the sides (twice) to tighten up the connection. Needle-nose pliers are good for this. Re-install pins.

Now for the type of wire used. At the injectors is a different type of wire then used for the other harness wires. Notice the slick shiney look & feel to them.

Now, was this same wire used at the ECM harness connectors (where the pins where?). If so then skip the next step. However, if the wire at the ECM harness connectors was like the normal harness wires, next step is:

Under the hood about a foot from the TBI unit will be splices. This is where the injector wires are spliced into the harness wires. Will need to un-wrap the harness to access them. Sometimes these splices break and become intermittent.
