Anyone using aftermarket intake & open element ?

I'm asking becuase I have a non drop-base open element on my 92 305 TBI and I'm wanting to put an aftermarket intake too . I have the stock hood and it looks like there could be clearance issues with anything other than a Edelbrock TBI intake or maybe a Edelbrock Performer . I already have a throttle body adapter to use with a carb style intake if I choose that route .

The edelbrock intake bolts up good. The open element air cleaner barely touches the hood padding.... no real issue there. It makes a difference on performance and doesn't kill mileage.

I am going to guess that you mean the Edelbrock Performer carb intake or Edelbrock Performer TBI intake ?? Since Edelbrock makes lots of different intakes , but that is the lowest rise one they make I believe . I have used a Performer TBI before on my old vert , but I used a Edelbrock Pro Flow with it , and I had to use the gold spacer ring with it , which I won't do again . Almost may as well stay with the stock stuff if you gottta use that ring . Sounds like from what you're saying that I may have to go with that intake or equivalant size to stay away from hitting the stock hood . And if you mean the Performer TBI , then I will be even closer if I use the Performer carb and the TBI adapter plate . I got a Edelbrock Torker 2 in the garage now , but it is taller than a Performer and it's single plane and pre 87 bolt style

That was with the performer TBI intake. For the torker you will probablt need a cowl, you could measure though to see if it would fit without the hood padding.

I'm done with it . It works fine . I used the Edelbrock Performer carb intake and the TBI adapter plate to put it in a carb manifold .
