TBI with Manual Tranny to Auto Tranny
Hello everybody,
yesterday, I was very lucky to find a '91 Firebird V8 with 5.0 TBI and manual transmission. I live in Germany, so finding a nice car just for parts is very hard.
I currently drive a '92 Firebird with the good old 3.1 V6 and automatic transmission. Now it's time to put the V8 into my firebird, but I want to keep the auto tranny.
Things, that I already know:
a) I need a new auto tranny for the TBI, because my old one will not fit.
b) I can reuse the ecm from the TBI, with a new chip for the auto tranny.
c) I have to change the fuel pump to get the TBI work.
d) I need to use the enginge mounting brackets from the TBI.
Things, I want to know:
1. What is about the engine wire harness from the TBI? Which changes are needed to get this thing worked with the auto transmission in my car?
2. What engine parts do I need to make it work with the auto tranny? Only a new flywheel?
3. Is it possible to use the TBI instrument cluster for the auto tranny?
4. Any other things and parts to keep in mind?
Thanks a lot!
Marcel

In what condition is the manual v8 firebird?
Would you exchange the manual v8 for a Swiss stock auto v8 bird? Would be less work.

Hi Thomas,
the condition could be better - I have seen a lot of rust on the pictures. For me, it was important, that the engines runs good.

The body of my car is full of rust - so I don't think it would be a good deal for you. I just have to rip out the good parts and scrap the rusted body.
