Idle speed and timing adjustment
I know this isn't PERFORMANCE, per se, but PERFORMANCE is all relative ,right? Sometimes mileage IS performance. Especially these days.
I have to go for MPG now.I haven't been too successful scraping together the bucks for speed. My 92RS is my DD.
I removed the TPI CAI plenum and put the open element back on. Now, I have cool air TEMPERING the engine compartment.( I'm told warm air is better for economy), and adjusted my initial timing back to 0* from 4* BTDC. I noticed my idle is back at 525 or so( considering the 16 year-old GM tach). I didn't realize the idle would be that much lower. I guess that's how less fuel is used.
I took it out and it FEELS ( butt dyno, but I'm skinny) just as responsive. To tell you the truth, it seemed to pass easier on the highway and I got a better one wheel peel.
I have a 250 mile week to get my mileage. We'll see how it does. I've been getting 24MPG combined with TPI CAI and 3" catback for the last 3 to 4 months, consistently. Since 30% of my commute is highway, I hope to see 26MPG combined. I'd love to find a set of 1 1/2" primary longtube headers. I'm told the small, long tubes would work great.
Anyone have any other ideas for cruising speeds and torque(Fast355, BBMonte?)
