Stock Vortecs + Beehives = .595" Retainer to Valve Guide Clearance

FYI.

I did a ton of research before dumping my vortecs and getting E-tecs based on info on this board regarding how large of a cam you can run with stock vortecs and the LS-1 style beehive 918 springs. This was a response from the guy I sold my heads (mkos1980.

I had nothing milled down. I have the 200 in the heads, 35 bucks for screw in studs. and under 200 for the springs retainers and locks. So about 450 total with misc stuff. The retainer is alot shorter then the stock one which makes more lift possible. Yup, retainer to seal is .595 I looked at car crafts website and they got .590 retainer to seal. They said max lift with the beehives and the 787-16 reatiner is 550-560 + a nice margin JIC.
This is not true with stock valve springs and retainers. So those of you wanting to run a LT-4 or similar cam with stock vortecs, put in some screw in studs and get the 918 springs and you will be set.
