Help needed on 350 Swap

Hello Guys,

I did an 305 to 350 Swap and the Engine runs great, techwise!!! Since I cant do my own Chips, I had to go Mailorder. Well what can I say the Car sucks Gas like there is no Tomorrow. No I need help.

Could I use my 305 Chip and Injectors and bump up Fuel pressure up to let say 18PSI? What would happen if I use an Truck ECM and Chip? How would the Car act? And the Last Question is, how would the Car act with an Stock Caprice Chip?

The Engine is Stock, just the Exhaust is opend up!

The Car is an Weekend Driver and I just want to enjoy the Summer and have Fun with it.

Thanks for any help!

Hey Firefighter

Were in Germany are you???
Stay with your existing ECM - truck ECM does not have IAT input and there is no advantage over car ECM. If you want to do your own tuning without resorting to mail order chips or resorting to chips, programmers and all the other equipment I wold suggest that you look into EBL.
BTW I always enjoy doing 140 clicks legally on A8 between Stuttgart and Munich!

Hi,

I´m up in the North (Hamburg). You mean 140mph not 140km? Just kidding, I know what you mean!!!

Really I´m not a Computerguy and I don´t get along to well with them Things. I would need an easy solution on this.

Re: Help needed on 350 Swap

i have a 91RS and i did this swap not too long ago, pondering a TPI swap so i didnt get my chip burned yet. Your car will run fine with the existing 305 wiring, computer, and chip. Might run a little lean but it works and there is a noticable difference. Alot of people in a pinch use a caprice cop car chip untill they are done modding their car because each mod requires a retune. Im lookin for a cop car chip now to throw in my car.

Re: Help needed on 350 Swap

Yes, in a pinch original 305 ECM and TBI will work ok with your 350. If you can bump up fuel pressure from 12 PSI to 18 PSI this will make easier for ECM to keeping A/F within reason. To really bring the performance of your new engine (I assume stock built 350, BTW what cam and heads do you have???) to its full potential you'll have to step up to data logging and chip burning. EBL makes high performance tuning for performance setups a much easier task. To put it mildly you are leaving money on the table by not tuning your engine combination yourself. Yes, it is true that there is a learning curve and monies involved, however in the end rewards are often a much bigger grin on your face when you put away another pesky M3 in the review mirror....

Enough said, do some homework, ask questions.... and enjoy the drive once the weather gets better....

At the very least buy borrow a laptop, buy or make(simple?) an ALDL cable, load winALDL on lappy and take a look at your sensors data. BLM feedback info may be beneficial to read/interpret. May give you a handle as to what level of FP is needed. Needless to say you need to add a FP gauge to your TB unit.
