In my 1986 RS had the back passenger side axle break, and come out of the car at around 100 MPH in a curve...The car ended up around a telephone pole....Another couple of inches it would have been head on into the pole..Was quite scary, the funny thing was the motor never died....I turned it off after the jump over the ditch, and the pole....The axle was still attached to the rim, and tire, which BTW never went flat....Got another thirdgen ASAP........There is a certain pride involved in driving one....Have had my current one (89) up to about 120, but that is at part throttle as it will not go into 4th gear at WOT....Would probably do 140 pretty easy...The aluminum drive shaft made a HUGE difference in vibration reduction...Not to mention it is cool looking as hell...This is about my 5, or 6th thirdgen....

 

You know i have to say that reading that reply pretty much summed up my feelings as well. I am only 23 but i am completely in love with my camaro. I sit in my house sometimes and just look out at it and think "Man i love that car". Very well said sir. Very well said.

 

After a tune up and without exhaust my speedo told me ~140. I can pretty much believe that it topped out somewhere around ~130 also somewhere in the 4500 rpm area.

Had the oppertunity to try that on a part of the german Autobahn that's without speed limits for quite a while. In total a 200 mile trip of which I managed about 60 miles at speeds constantly over 120 mph. Engine got quite warm, and the driver and passenger footwell were quite cozy warm as well.

Same gears as thomas btw.

Mine are T rated for 118 mph, and they held up well enough. Then again, had I known that during the 200 mile trip I would have stopped at 115 mph

0.696 OD
4500 rpm would scratch 144 mph with that in overdrive.

Accelerating you´d most likely kick it out of overdrive again.
In 3rd you´d be driving 100 mph with that gear and tire combo at 4500 rpm

 

115 with over 200xxx miles, oo yea lol. yeah, limiters are no fun but keep u alive to do it again

 

ive done close to 140mph on a bone stock 88 lo3 T/A . it took me a little over 45 miles of road to reach that speed . i was 17 no lic. and worn out regatta tires by goodyear i think , anywho i wouldnt do that again without modding the suspension , the bird almost flew !!!!!!

 

i feel like it'd take me alot less than 45miles lol
