In order to run an external fuel pressure reg...like an aeromotive one, do you need to remove the spring from the stock regulator? I would assume you would but i wanted to make sure. I plan on converting the hard lines over to AN lines and putting in the aeromotive regulator. Im sick of adjusting my fuel pressure by having to pull off the injector top and "guessing". I plan on throwing a wynjammer kit at this car shortly and it would be alot easier to dial in my fuel pressure this way.

 

Yes the stock FPR spring and diaphragm is removed. I used gasket material I bought at auto parts store and used FPR cup to outline and cut gasket. Did same with aluminum sheet and used a dremel to form it to same shape as cup. Used same screws to attach.

 

ok so just removing the spring wont do it? I still have to remove the diaphragm as well?

 

If you are going to run higher pressure then stock, then can just leave it all in place (the stock FPR).

Although this does create another point of failure. So I prefer to use a block off plate. Can cut the center out of the stock diaphram as a gasket. Then use a 1/8" thick piece of aluminum for a block off plate. Steel can be used but it may start to rust.

I will def be running higher pressure then stock. I have an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator on the car now I plan on bringing it up to around 20psi. Right now my aftermarket one is set to i believe 14. I was just going to take the spring out and put it back together..i thought without a spring it wouldn't even regulate pressure..and it would pretty much just be an open line to the injectors...or am i wrong?

 

I have never regulated my fuel pressure to a minimum BUT I will suggest your FP with no spring might be 1 pound? FPR is downstream of the injectors so as restriction increases so does pressure. Now if you MAX the ajustment with spring completely compressed it may/will blow the diaphragm. ask me how I know!
