88 tbi running rough

hi i am having a problem with my 88 camaro with a 305 tbi two days ago the car started right up and ran great (with a jump the batterys dead) its got new plugs wires and a cap and rotor. and i went to start the car last night and it took a while for the batt to charge up to start it (jump again) and when it finaly had enough juct to start it started but it isnt running right now its really boggy and it wont idle very long without dieing and if you try to rev it up it kinda sounds like its cutting out my uncle thought it may be because the battery is dead? its not getting enough power to the coil is this a possibility? i was told the fuel pump is new but the old one is still good and i have it should i try that? i replaced the fuel filter today and that diddnt help i let the car run for a bit after to charge the battery up a little and see if it would clear up but it diddnt help (it did charge the battery though)
any ideas what it could be? thanks guys

heres a vid of it running

Make sure both injectors are firing correctly.

Sounds like a cylinder might not be firing, make sure the plug wires are seated correctly on the cap and plugs.

Re: 88 tbi running rough

all the wires are on tight but one thing i did notice was that the plug that clips on top of the injectors the things you sqeeze are broken could that be whats doing it? because i remember when i bought the car it was running like this but then when i changed the airfilter it started running good again so im thinking maby the clips/wires for the injectors may be loose?

Re: 88 tbi running rough

i found one vacume line that leaks which would be the one that leads to one of the sencers on the air intake would that be a problem? also i had my uncle come today and test my battery with his snapon load tester and when sitting there it showed it had 11.3 volts but when you hit the test button it only lit up one notch an the meter and it was the lowest one and it was in the red reading replace could this cause my car to run poorly like this?

Re: 88 tbi running rough

replaced the battery that wasnt it. i figured out the vacume line that was leaking was actualy broken in half and it goes up to a sencer that is in the air intake and it says ac on it which one is this? and i tryed to look and see how the injectors were spraying but i really couldent tell it was hard to see but i did notice when i turned the car off that when i removed the electrical plugs from the top of the injectors that the top side of the drivers side injector looked wet? could that mean it needs new orings in there? if not should they both be like that?

Re: 88 tbi running rough

That really sounds alot like my problems i had a few days ago, and it was indeed the injectors. Take off the snorkel setup and check the injectors, make sure their spraying in a almost ^ pattern or close to it.

The thing you want to look at is this. There should be no leaks around the injectors, but like i said just make sure their spraying properly or spraying at all. Its not that hard to see if they are working properly.

Like i said, same thing was happening to me and the passenger side injector eventually failed after i parked the car and turned it on again, it just does not accelerate right and struggles to change gears and when it does it pulls hard.

Re: 88 tbi running rough

i found out that the passanger side injector isnt spraying at all and there is no power going to it but if i switch the plug to power it with the other side the injector works so for some reason i am not getting power to the plug that powers the injector what could this be?

Re: 88 tbi running rough

There are two fuses in your fuse panel. Check and make sure that they are good. This happened to me and i was running on only four cylinders. The fuses should be labeled INJ 1 and INJ 2 if i remember correctly, couldn't tell you left from right though. I used to blow the right one all the time but i don't know really why. Then again if you looked at my wires, you'd wonder how they work at all because the sleeves covering the copper is pulled back at least an inch on each one. Some idiot thought that was the genius way to trouble shoot. And if the sensor your talking about is on the air cleaner housing itself, i don't think it matters much, as I've ran w/out it for a while. If it's the vacuum line that runs to the sensor on the firewall, then that's the MAP sensor, and you should be throwing a code for that, so i don't think that's what your talking about. Check fuses and come back.

Check the fuses and post back, if replacing the fuses does not work, it might be the actual cables themselfs check them to see if they are not worn out or broken, if they are local shops like Autozone, Orileys, etc carry them, i think they were around 14-17 bucks new, or if you are cheap like me, just head to a local junkyard that knows you, most of the time i get small things like this for free, including how i got my replacement injectors.

Re: 88 tbi running rough

Mine used to run rough, at 700 RPM it sounded like it had a high lift cam.. Really, the TBI was so gummed up with leaves, and gunk nothing was getting into it.. A $58 TBI rebuild kit, and an hour and a half and it gets 500 km to a tank of fuel..

Re: 88 tbi running rough

i figured out what the problem was the *&$^@#g idiot that i bought the car from removed the fuse for the #2 injector and the reason it ran good for a few days was because i hooked up some led lights inside the car and used the fuse box for power and what i stuck in there looked like a y so it connected both ports where the fuse would go were connected and that wire got pulled out and i diddnt realise it so it stopped powering the injector so it wasnt runnning on both sides it is now fixed thanks for the help guys
