carb intake in a tbi
I have heard that i can just buy a carb intake and put it to my tbi which intake would be the best to do that, or is that not true.

Re: carb intake in a tbi
Don't remember which one I got, but I put a carb intake on my 1990 TBI - just have to get an adapter to adapt the TBI unit ro the carb intake. I remember it was a Weiand intake.
BUT - what other mods have you done? You do too many, and you'll have to get a new chip burned! The TBI ECM doesn't do well with very many mods unless it gets retuned, and it's very very hard to find anyone to do it for tbi chipsets.

Right now it only has a kn and open element but i am gonna be swapping to a 350 soon and was thinking of adding some performance did you notive gains with the intake, also do you need one with egr or any intake would work with it, also since in mine theres a sensor would that have to do something with it or no.

It's been awhile back - but I think the Weiand intake I got had the EGR opening. Everything was direct bolt on except the TBI unit, which like I said I got an adapter for (I got it at Advance Auto - a 2-day order, cost $39 then).
Gains I couldn't tell ya - I did too much (and thus the warning about the TBI engine mods and the ECM not being able to keep up). I did LT1 cam, #416 heads ported/polished with 1.6:1 rollertip rockers, 1.94 intake valves (instead of stock 1.84), that intake, headers, and gutted cat with hiflo muffler. All of that was way way too much, the chip didn't know what to do with all the new air it could sense, and so in response to my mods the chip pumped tons of fuel to accomodate all the new airflow, which made it run rich as hell, and so it ran poorly. But - you could feel the extra power just dying to get out - if I had swapped to a carb, that little modded 305 would have screamed!
Are you limited by state emission laws against swapping to a carb when you do the 350?
Nevermind - I see the CA. Just don't do too much and the TBI chip will be fine. If/when you do the 350, try to swap to TPI if you can - alot more of programming potential with the TPI chip, and it'll be legal in Cali.

Re: carb intake in a tbi
it's an add on board for the ECM, I'm thinking about getting it if I get another TBI car.
