carb intake on a tbi with 416's?

Hello all, I am fresh meat around here and I would like to get an opinion or two. I own a set of the 416 heads and after searching around here know what needs to be done to make them a decent head. Everyone seems to say they are a god "carb" head, after being reworked are they ok on a tbi also? I have the boat anchor of an lo3 in a 91 bird and am thinking of having the heads done and using a Torker II carb intake with an adapter to keep the tbi. I already own all of these parts and just looking to utilize the parts i own to up the performance of what i have. I know there are better ways of going about this but 3 mouths on 1 paycheck plus diapers doesnt leave a lot of room for all the nice stuff like vortec heads and such. I also have a y pipe off of a tpi trans am, which is much larger than the y pipe on my car now, and a dynomax cat-back system waiting to be installed. Thanks for any opinions, advice, or thoughts

you'd probably be better off with a dual plane intake.

i know the reasoning behind the dual plane intake, but i already own the single. I was hoping someone had used a single plain with an adapter vs. a stock tbi intake and had an opinion on it.

I was going to run the torker 2 intake as well with my tbi unit. Plus i have the lt1 cam installed. But didnt want to cause problems with the egr system.

I would sell that torker 2, it's not a very good maifold, I had one, the ports are very irreguler, and the plenem is small, sell it and get a performer RPM or something you'll be better off.

I probably couldnt give it away, its been sitting on the shelf for over 4 years. I have heard, and read that the tbi intake was so restrictive in stock form, the torker would be a step up from that at least...i can just throw some more junk on top of it and forget about it a couple more years.

haha...duly noted. Any opinion on using the reworked cast# 416 head with the tbi? It seems they are a good carb head, just wodering if they benefit the 305 with the tbi also?

dam near anything is an improvemnt over swirl ports, unless your building a motor that will never rev over 4500. I'm going to use a set of 081's, which are pretty much the same as your 416's IIRC

thats what im hearing, just kind of wanting to play around with a tbi, but like i said i do love a holley. It wont take much to sway me back to carb'd and hei'd.

Re: carb intake on a tbi with 416's?

As someone with a carbed engine that started out TBI... just throw the 416's under the TBI and learn to tune it. The intake may be a little restrictive, but those heads will wake up that motor. Still has the peanut cam in it though.

Im always chasing down random quirky carb gremlins. But I guess I'd rather do that than chase down goofy sensors. But the TBI system is so much simpler than TPI. I never had any trouble with the L03, but the TPI guys always seem to have weird issues. Just anecdotal though. I may be wrong.
