96 vortec tbi

Hey guys I'm building a 96 vortec 350 tbi out of a 91 or 92 truck,which I'm pretty sure is a non roller motor. I have a few questions.

Will I have to change the distributer gear for a roller compliant gear.

Since I'm not running a crank position sensor, can I run the 92 timming cover?

My ramshorns should still fit the vortec 906 heads?

I heard that the newer blocks dont have a coolant bypass.
Can i drill some holes in thermostat flange to make sure that I dont get hot spots in my engine?

It is a little unclear from your description what you are using. If it is a 96 vortec block it is a roller cam block and probably does not have a coolant bypass in the block. Yes, the easy way to provide a bypass is drill a couple of 1/4" holes in the t-stat lip.

You will need a vortec intake manifold.

I did use a standard sbc 2 piece timing cover, but as I recall there is an issue with either one of the bolts or location studs not being the same, but just rtv it good and it will seal up fine.

Re: 96 vortec tbi

Thanks for the reply, this is a new 96 vortec long block. I'm swaping over all the stuff from my 92 tbi motor. I have allready bought a 7116 edelbrock vortec intake and a tbi adapter. I've heard some contradicting things about the use of the distributor gear from my 92, which is not a roller and using it in my roller 96 block. sorry for the confusion.

No difference in gears.I run a roller block with the same ditributor I was using when I was running a flat tappet cam in same block.
