Ignition!? Fuel!? Gradual loss

I've got an issue that is driving me crazy. Mostly because I'm not sure which end to start with. I had my car parked for about a year and would crank it about every week or two. I just put it back on the road and after a couple of days of running incredibly well it started something interesting. It runs really strong for the first couple of minutes...then it begins to either gradually lose fuel pressure or spark. It's still strong running at low RPM but gets lower and lower and will eventually (if you give it long enough) go dead. You kill it for a minute (30 seconds or so) and it fires right back up and starts the whole process over again. I replaced the horribly dirty fuel filter already and am doing all I can to keep from having to drop the tank...again. I had just replaced the fuel pump shortly before parking the car. Any help, hints guesses are greatly appreciated. The TBI 305 is eventually coming out to make way for my SBC400 as soon as I find a decent set of heads....it may get carbed in the very very near future.

Thanks
