Requesting buying advice

First off, Mods- I hope I'm in the right category for this.

Okay, so I'm a college kid looking for a cheap car/ summer toy.
I found a 1987 Firebird Formula locally that the guy says has a 305 TBI that he claims is factory original. The car has under 90k on it, I'm inclined to believe its the original motor. The problem is, according to the chart on here, 87's didn't come with TBI. Does anyone know if there were any formulas that had TBI's?

The car has a clean body, and only needs a couple of minor things, which the seller is including the parts for. Its a Hardtop/A4 car. It might even be a ws6 car. He is asking $1500 and after talking to him I bet he will go lower. Is this a good deal?

Addendum: This car runs and drives well.

Are you sure it's an LO3(tbi 305)? If so it's not original or the car's an 88. More than likely it's a LG4.(carbed 305) As far as the tbi in a formula.. you could get an I-ROC with a tbi.

There's also a possibility the owner thinks he has a Formula, but does not. My old Firebird was even titled as a formula, but was not. Check out the vin decoder at this link: http://www.fbodydomain.com/VIN/VIN.asp and compare it to the VIN on the car. This can help you determine what year and style it really is, as well as what motor originally came in the car.

I ahve one of the first TBI cars manufactured. IIRC it was made in late '87 (dubious distinction, I know). But, it was still listed as an 88 car. I would also check with the owner to see if its an LG4. Wont make much of a difference either way stock as the power output was almost the same for both models. One has a carb, while the other has TBI.
