The ultimate 383 stroker TBI setup ??
These days, i ordered a new shortblock, a 383 stroker. The compression ratio is 10,4:1 with 64ccm-heads. Now, i am looking for nice heads and for a nice TBI-setup. I fitted an ACD 241 fuelpump and an EBL to my car.
What do you think ?
I also fitted an Edelbrock 3704 intake manifold, bored to 46mm. I can bore it to 2".
Should i go with a Turbocity 46mm bored throttlebody with 65´injectors, the throttlebody from the 454´bigblock with 75´injectors or should i go with the Holley-throttlebody with 75´inectors ??
What do you think about the heads ?
Ported L05-heads, Patriot Freedom heads or the Edelbrock-alu-heads ??

Ok, but which throttlebody with which injectors (pressure ?) should i use ?
Has anybody a 383 TBI ? Perhaps, he can tell me his "engine-setup" ?!

Re: The ultimate 383 stroker TBI setup ??
To get any power from a 383 the Edelbrock 3704 intake needs to be sold. Then use a dual plane such as the Performer RPM. Or an single plane such as the Victor Jr. The dual being a mid-range street 383, the Victor being an upper range street 383.
Then a good size TBI unit. At least a 2" bore 2-bbl unit.
Will need to size the injector flow rate to the expected engine HP. Can go with GM 80.5 #/hr injectors at 32 psi for a max of 477 HP. Which isn't too bad for street use

Once over that HP level, then a 4-bbl TBI or dual 2-bbl TBI's are required.
Look at the whole package together and match it for HP, RPM, and torque range. Cam, heads, intake, and injector flow need to be taken into account together.

The engine should look like the stock L03 ! It should have 350-380 HP.
I don´t want to have a damaged TH700, driveshaft or rearaxle. I don´t like high rpm, but it should have torque !!!
The cam is a "Jones Cam Design", it calls "stump puller". A torque cam !
In the moment, i´ve got no specifications about the cam !

380 horse power out of a 383 should be no problem at all. I would think it would make at least 400.

There is another way to look at this...
Torque is good for pulling tree stumps out of the ground. And is also good for breaking drive line parts.
Horse power is good for acceleration. And is easier on drive line parts.
And... If you are not prepared for breakage, then don't upgrade the engine. Otherwise upgrade the drive line to handle the expected Tq/Hp.

Ok, now, i know what you mean. My tranny has a kevlar brake band, raybestos clutches and transgo stage 2 reprogramming kit. I think, it should resist more power than an original tranny ?!
My rearend is rebuilt. New "richmond gears" ring and pinion, new bearings and seals. I also think, it should resist more power than an original rearend ?!
But my driveshaft is stock.
I fitted Eibach-springs and kyb struts and shocks and a wonderbar, too.
After the season, i fit the LS1-brake parts and subframe connectors....
I´d like a good car with a lot of performance but without any damages... :-)
Which cam specifications do you prefer ??
What do you think about the oilpan ?? Does the L98-oilpan fit ??

What is the current rear gear ratio?
The oil pan will fit. However, it will most likely need to be clearance'd for the stoker. This is usually done by carefully hammer on the areas where the rod caps/bolts hit the pan.

12-412-8 [10]; XR264HR; 1200 to 5200
@ .050: 212/218 .487/.495 (w/1.5 rocker); 110 LSA
12-466-8 [10]; 268XFI HR13; 1800 to 5800
@ .050: 218/224 .570/.565 (w/1.6 rocker); 113 LSA
For an intake, I haven't seen much in single planes ever since Weiand stop producing the 7525. The Edelbrock PERFORMER RPM Q-JET (1500-6500 rpm) is a decent choice. The q-jet top is wider then a sq-bore top. Note that this is a non-EGR intake.

Re: The ultimate 383 stroker TBI setup ??
Nice project!
Makes me wonder, AFR 180 65cc heads, 2" TB, 80#/hr injectors (could also try 65# with high pressure if you already have them), 2" 3704 and the smaller cam rbob suggested should make a modest low rpm 300rwhp engine.
Good question, how much hp can the TPI fuel pump handle?

Re: The ultimate 383 stroker TBI setup ??
I think, the acd 241 fuelpump should be ok. So, you think 65´injectors for example @18 PSI should do the same work with a 2" bored ede 3704 and a 2" throttlebody ?
What´s the difference between a single intake and a dual intake. Ok, i know, how it looks, but i don´t know the advantages and disadvantages of both ???!!

If you use 65# injectors, check in the EBL xdf file how much fuel pressure you need to support 350hp.

Ok. Done.
27 PSI ---- 65´injectors == 354 HP
18 PSI ---- 80´injectors == 356 HP
20 PSI ---- 75´injectors == 351 HP
I think, 75´injectors @20 PSI are nice ?! With BBC TB or Holley TB !

I would go BBC TB. Check out dctrumpet's tbi store he has probably everithing you need for the TBI.

Ok, BBC TB with 75´injectors @20 PSI....
But i don´t know the difference between a single and a dual plane intake manifold !
I want to have EGR, too ! I´d like the stock look.....
Where can i find dctrumpet´s TBI-store ??

Re: The ultimate 383 stroker TBI setup ??
Basically, dual plane has 2 bores, each one supplying 4 cylinders.
Single plane has one plenum that supplies all 8 cylinders and is alittle more "stubborn" at low rpm and loads, works wery good for high flow/rpm.
Though "ultimate 383 stroker" does not sound tame, meaning that single plane is needed.
A nice streetable 383 should work with a dual plane. Here the flow # of the 2" 3704 https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tbi/...bi-3704-a.html

If your just after a 380-400 horse mild street motor, (this is not an ultimate 383 though) then a dual plane is what you want.

Ok ok, "ultimate" was the false word.... :-)
I need a nice, streetable stroker....
