Different TBI TV detent cables?

took the old cable off my 92 and gave it away to help a friend.
Got this new one from an 89tbi supposedley and it's 2-3" too short! Here it is pulled all the way out with the D-clip also adjusted all the way out.
Were there different tbi cables?
My friends car has a totally different bracket where the TV cable mounts low and tight to the manifold. That leads me to believe either the cables were different from 88-92 or the brackets were different or there were carb brackets used?
I'd just go to a parts store but they list the TBI cables as get this
52" (ok thats for a TPI maybe)
FWD (are you kidding me)
th200 or th350 (a vacum tranny not a 700r4)

Yes they actually have them listed THAT incorrectly
So does anyone know a specific part store and part number that is right for a 92 and why this 89 cable is a few inches too short.

AC Delco 10066475. The same cable was used on the LO3 from 87 to 92

Re: Different TBI TV detent cables?

then i don't understand how this one can be too short.
It appears the only thing it would fit is my firends car which has a totally different bracket that puts it closer.

Re: Different TBI TV detent cables?

Here's a pic of the other style bracket that anchors the cable lower and closer.
There's no possible way the cables can be the same or mine would fit.

Re: Different TBI TV detent cables?

That's a stock carburetor bracket, and a carb.

Re: Different TBI TV detent cables?

Yes I know it's a carb, it's the only pic I could find of the other bracket.
Ebay person F'd me over. On close examination i now see the ebay cable pictured is NOT the cable I was sent.

Re: Different TBI TV detent cables?

If your store is out of stock, they will get it next day I'm sure:

http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web...S_603226408___
Advance Auto
Motormite Motormite Auto Trans Detent Cable
Part No. 04200 51.25"
$19.99

Napa shows as part number ATP 17901.
Above is the GM number listed by someone.
Autozone doesn't list that I can find.

FYI .... These are for the 8cyl 5.0 TBI - the 3.1 6cyl TBI shows as a shorter (46in) cable.

it's too short. The top pic is it maxxed out and it doesn't even reach the TBI bracket.
When it's pushed it all the way at the TBI end it doesn't even stick out on the tranny end like it should and like the pic shows.
The connnector is also faded to brown(as you can see in the pic) vs how it's black in the ebay auction. The ebay auction pic is the one with the blue iroc in the back ground.

I could possibly make it work if I could cut some of the sheath off to make the cable come out further, but that will be a PITA not to nick the cable while doing that since the outer sheath had cable inside the plastic. Currently the cable is ~47" long which is way longer then the old one.
Oh yeah beware and don't buy from fazttoyz13 on ebay, he's the one who sold me this cable that isn't what was pictured.
The guy has posted here under IrocZ85 but I guess when you're scum you have to change your name and he has also posted here under Fazt87Vert.
His name is Brian Blanchard from Arlington Heights, IL

Re: Different TBI TV detent cables?

There are different detent cables but all TBI detent cables are the same. That's the problem with dealing with people on eBay. You deal with people who claim to be experts on these cars but actually know very little about them.

Why bother - if you get it wrong it means a fried tranny - these cables have to be just right, and adjusted just right - a tranny isn't worth screwing around over.

They are $25 - just go get one at the local auto parts store - we've given you 3 part numbers for 3 different stores in your area. Take the ebay cable and toss it in the trash - it's used and therefore abused anyway, and call it a lesson - don't buy critical parts off ebay.
