fuel yet no fuel - SOLVED
fuel yet no fuel - SOLVED
This problem is driving me crazy. I hope someone here can act as another set of eyes on this problem.
Ok 92 Chevy C1500 5.7L TBI it's a friend's truck it started running poorly and eventually would not start. So I told him I'd take a look at it.
These years did not have a service test port for fuel pressure and I'm aware they make an adapter but I didn't want to spent the 30 bucks and replum the lines for it.
So I cracked the fuel inlet on the TBI and sure enough no fuel during key on (prime) and no fuel when cranking. So I replaced the fuel pump and filter. I can now hear the pump prime when I turn the key (cracking the inlet again proves this). But won't start and nothing out of the injectors. This time I crack the return line - nothing is coming out during cranking.
The injectors ohm out to 1.3 which I read is within spec. They will also click when 12v applied. Regarding the injector plugs I'm seeing 12v on one side with key on. I also see the other side pulse when kicking over. I did a diagnostic and the truck is not throwing any codes.
So this thing has 220k on the clock I decide to take the TB off to get a better look, under neath / inside I find three spider nests LOL so I completely disassemble the TB and soak it in chem bath over night. Put it all back together with new gaskets and new regulator. Also during disassembly I blew air up thru the plunger to dislodge anything that may be caught inside the injector.
Now I can see fuel coming out of the return and when I take the top off the injector pod theres fuel in there too but NOTHING comes out of the injectors. So I got fuel coming to them, they test out, yet nothing is flowing. Just wondering if there is something I'm missing. I read some vehicles may be equipped with a roll over sensor or oil pressure sensor of sorts that can prevent the vehicle from running - but I didn't think they had this in '92. I just find it hard to believe both injectors could be bad at once or the new pump possibly isn't pushing enough pressure?
There is spark I've already tested that and any drop of fuel that makes it down the TB (anything you pour or spill in) you can tell she want's to start its just nothing is coming out of the injectors for whatever reason.
edit: did some more reading wanted to confirm / deny here - can the tps have an effect on injector pulse? also what drives the pulse on these late model engines - I don't recall them having a crank position sensor so is it the coil then?
edit: ok bought a noid light today and it appears the injectors are not receiving a pulse - they are however receiving voltage during key on
edit: solved - no thanks to autozone and their crappy test equipment said ignition module was good then the manager got lippy with me and wanted to argue that the problem was the injectors despite me telling him the noid light plugged into the injector harness wasnt illuminating then he went on to claim it was the ECM - omfg where do these ppl come from!? So I took the module to Advance Auto and they tested it bad 5x in a row, swapped it out and viola she fired right up. The right tools make the job so much easier LOL
